Just how good is Matt Donnelly the Mind Noodler, and who is noodling whom? Mind noodling is funny mentalism, but can Matt actually do it? And if so, how precious is the proof? One of the great things about the improv nature of Matt’s shows is that audience volunteers can get in some zingers too.
Video 1:
Matt: Want you to think about our psychic connection, okay? Open to one page, look at it, and close it. Got one word?… Alright, can you focus on that word for me? And then I’m going to try to draw it. Here we go. … Focus in to me. Okay, are you thinking the same thing the whole time?
Liz: Mhmm.
Matt: Who are you here with?
Liz: My husband.
Matt: Your husband? Like of the two of you, are you the funny one?
[Audience laughs]
Matt: If anyone else is sending me an image, can you please stop?
[Audience laughs]
Matt: Alright, focus up then. Here we go. We’re dealing with your psychic abilities and my drawing abilities, neither of which are A-plus-plus-plus, okay? So if I’m even close, even in the ballpark, I want you to say “You nailed it,” and this whole place will go wild for you, and you can grab a seat.
[Magician hands her a large poster board that reads “SHIT I GOT NOTHING”]
[Audience laughs and applauds]
Matt: What were you thinking of?
Liz: You want to know now?
Matt: Yeah, yeah, I want to know now.
Liz: Doughnut.
Matt: Doughnut!
[Matt spins his easel around to reveal a drawing of a donut.]
[Audience oohs and applauds]
Video 2:
Matt: Where are we going to hang this up?
Liz: In my art gallery.
Matt: In your art—
[Audience and Matt laugh]
Matt: She might as well have wiped my face with a middle finger!
[Audience laughs]
Matt: “In my art gallery, magic man.”
[Matt starts writing on the board]
Matt: All right, how do you spell your name?
Liz: Liz. L-I-Z.
Matt: L-I… what was it?
Liz: Z.
Matt: Weird.
[Audience laughs]
Matt: Listen, you’re gonna hang this up in your art gallery; they’re gonna say “Who made this?” and you’re gonna say, “I did, with a famous Vegas magician.” They’ll say, “What?! Which one?” You’ll say, “David Copperfield.”
[Audience laughs]
[Matt displays the drawing of the doughnut, which now says ‘To Liz From David Copperfield’ at the bottom]
Matt: Liz, everybody!
